Korg Nanokontrol2 Garageband Ipad
Sep 25, 2018 Hello there! This is a quick demo of the Korg Nanopad 2. Connected to the iPad Pro (running Garageband for iOS) using the Apple Lightning to USB adapter. Do you have any questions regarding this. Bluetooth: connected to iOS GarageBand and Korg Gadget, no noticeable lag or latency of any kind. It never dropped connection, even when I left it alone for awhile. Wired: I was able to connect it to my iMac without any issues, but just for testing since I own a full 88-key Roland. Jul 06, 2014 Device 'nanoKONTROL2' is assigned to MIDI port 'SLIDER/KNOB' which is not present - please ensure that all MIDI interfaces are connected and switched on. IF this is the case please check the MIDI port setting of device 'nanoKONTROL2' if this is correct, click 'reset ALL MIDI Drivers' in Preferences MIDI General. Any clues how to fix this? I'd be interested to know if they are as programmable as mpk mini in terms of what midi messages controls send. i.e. momentary/toggle, program change etc. Is it worth getting? If so version 1 or 2? Much difference between them? Thanks in advance.

I don't use it a lot but I have a version 1 unit and it only sends continuous controllers 0 - 41 on channel 1. Sliders and faders are continuous ,buttons are toggle (0/127) and transports are momentary. I don't know if there is any editor for this - maybe for version 2 ?
I am pretty sure with the korg software it is fairly customizable. I will check it out when I get home.
I have the first one. It works well, the editor program for Mac /PC is good so you can customize what the buttons, sliders, and knobs do for each I the four scenes in the controller. Tabeltop reponded to transport controls for me.

1: editing is a PC/Mac program
2: 3 of the 4 patches are pre-coded DAW controls, such as Hui, and are not editable
3: Hui however works well with Auria, at least for tracks 1 - 8
4: Korg nicely published their Sysex dump protocol and format for the series, and I have found I can use MidiToolbox to capture a newly edited patch, and to load up any of those so captured when needed. Not instantaneous, but still useful.
5: I have also seen very effective use of the nanoKONTROL2 to control an 8 track LoopyHD performance, but have not had much luck getting the mappings from the performer. How to download virtual dj pioneer cdj 2000 skin for virtual dj download for free new 2011.
6: and if all else fails, and you are not trrying to control a port-promiscuous-only App, there is always MidiBridge, and possibly FrEWI, to map on the spot when using the editor is not an option.
Cheers guys. @dwarman, yes I know there's midi mapping apps but they are yet another app to add to the pile. I like akai mpk/lpd8 series because they talk directly to the apps and the mac/PC editor is well easy and effective.

I'd like to see that if it's a video or something. Controlling loopy is my primary use for it. Can't share MIDI setups directly but here's how I have mine set up:
- REW: Rerecord track
- FF: Toggle Record Then Record Next Track
- STOP: Cancel pending actions
- PLAY/REC: Duh
- Track L/R: switch 'current' track
- CYCLE: Toggle Record without Count In/Out
- Marker L/R: halve/double loop length
This is a little convoluted but it works for me after using it a bit (plus labels)
- Ch 1 S: Toggle Record then Overdub
- Ch 1 M: Clear track
- Ch 1 R: Rerecord Track
- Ch 1 Vol: Current track volume
- Ch 1 Pan: Current track pan
Channel 8 is another sorta meta channel:
- Ch 8 S: Synchronization on/off
- Ch 8 M: Metronome on/off
- Ch 8 R: Tap Tempo
- Ch 8 V: Adjust Tempo
Then, channels 2-7 map directly to what you'd imagine for tracks 1-6 in Loopy — solo, mute, record, volume and pan. With the exception of channel 2's mute button which mutes the active track. I actually rarely use these bits while recording but it is nice after I get something going to be able to tweak the volume/pan of at least 1-6 directly.
It may sound weird that I have 2-7 mapped to tracks 1-6 in Loopy but the edge channels are easy to spot/grab and they get used a lot more.
I wish the NanoKontrol 2 had more than one CC preset or the ability to change the MIDI channel directly on the the device (which you can apparently do with the original NanoKontrol). Then you could mix 12 tracks in loopy pretty seemlessly (or 8 totally seemlessly). Plus, when I use it with my MIDI foot pedal, a lot of the above is redundant. Would be great to switch the setup in those cases.
@supadom In addition to only having a single CC 'scene', also note that while the v2 has considerably more buttons, it has eight groups vs nine groups on the original. For mixing purposes, the 9th channel is handy as a fixed 'master' channel.

There's some wankery in the beginning, but it at least shows how useful a NanoKontrol can be for looping. You can completely customize everything in the editor, including which buttons latch and are momentary. Super value for what you'd want it to do.

PS. No, you can't send Program Change messages. You can send CCs and notes only.
Cheers guys. Do you know if mk1 is much less able than the second edition? They're going on ebay for much cheaper.
From personal experience as well as what I've found (perhaps better said, not found) on the web the original Nanokontrol is useless except for Korg apps. I may replace mine at some point with the second generation, especially since there's a mode that works well with Auria apparently.
I tried a Samson MF8 a month ago, which appears to have a smarter design than the Nanokontrol. My unit was defective and I returned it. So far there are no reviews out there and only 1 rating on amazon, none on thomann, b&h, or sweetwater.

with iphone 5s over usb adapter it seems doesnt work..???!!! any experience?
While searching for info on nanokontrol my old (2014) thread popped up. I'm still trying to replace my beatstep (endless encoders grrrrr.) but can't find anything compact enough.
I bought korg nano pad but there's just x y pad and I'd ideally need more knobage for some fx control.
I've looked at launch control cuteness that I used to have but the pads are far from ideal (jelly wobble type) despite looking very sexy in all those fruity colours. I don't actually use pads for drumming but controlling loop actions in loopy but they've got to trigger reliably.
Any ideas welcome. I doubt it as I've been at it for a while now.
Behringer x touch mini caught my eye too but those tiny buttons..and again, endless encoders. No mac editor either!

1. GRANT OF LICENSE AND COPYRIGHT

The Licensed Program and any manuals or other written documentation supplied with the Licensed Program belongs to you. The ownership of the rights to and the copyright of the Licensed Program itself (whether supplied via a storage device, diskette, download from the Internet or otherwise) and the copyright of the contents of any manual or other written document belong to Korg.
Korg reserves the right to make modifications to the Licensed Program and to the support services set out in clause 7 of this agreement (referred to in this agreement as “the Services”) without prior notification to you.
2. RESTRICTIONS
The Licensed Program contains copyrighted information. For the purpose of protecting such copyrights, you may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, or otherwise reduce the Licensed Program to a human-perceivable form (save as may be permitted by law).
You may not duplicate, alter, modify, rent, lease, resell, assign, loan, sub-license, distribute the whole or part of the Licensed Program, or make derivative works based on what is contained in the Licensed Program. 3. TERMINATION
This agreement takes effect on the date you have received the Licensed Program. The license granted in this agreement will terminate automatically without notice from Korg in the event that you breach any provision of this agreement or in any way infringe Korg’s copyright in the Licensed Program.
In such event you must destroy the Licensed Program and its backup copy immediately.
4. PRODUCT WARRANTY
Korg warrants that the Licensed Program when properly used will provide the facilities and functions as described in the accompanying documentation but does not warrant that the operation of the Licensed Program will be uninterrupted or error-free.
This warranty shall however only apply to the latest version of the Licensed Program (provided that Korg has reasonably made such version available to you) and shall not apply to any previous version or versions of the Licensed Program.
Korg’s obligation and your exclusive remedy under the warranty mentioned above, is limited either:
(a) to Korg at its own expense using all reasonable endeavours to rectify any non-conformance with the warranty by repair (by way of a patch, work around, correction or otherwise) within a reasonable period of time or,
(b) to a refund of the license fee paid (if any) if in Korg’s reasonable opinion it is unable to rectify such non-conformance within a reasonable timescale or at an economic cost, whereupon this agreement and the license created by this agreement shall terminate.
The warranties provided in this clause 4 is limited to the product purchased from an authorized retailer, distributor or download from the Korg website.
5. LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY
You agrees that the express obligations and warranties made by Korg in this Agreement are (so far as is permitted by law) in lieu of and to the exclusion of any other warranty, condition, term, undertaking or representation of any kind, express or implied, statutory or otherwise, relating to anything supplied or services provided under or in connection with this Agreement including (without limitation) any warranty as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Licensed Program and the Services or any part of them.
Korg, in no event, will be liable for the direct, derivative, collateral or consequential damage caused by the use of or the inability of using the Licensed Program (including but not limited to damage of data, lost commercial profit, interruption of work, lost commercial information), regardless of the degree of damages, and even if Korg was aware of the possibility of such damages or the possibility of a claim for damage from a third party in advance.
Nothing in this agreement shall affect the statutory rights of any person dealing with Korg as a consumer.

6. THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE
Korg may on occasions supply software programs, data files and/or documentation belonging to a third party or parties (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Third Party Software”).
If supplied in conjunction with any Korg instrument or equipment, such Third Party Software shall only relate to the non-essential functions of such instrument or equipment.
If Third Party Software has been supplied (whether in conjunction with any Korg instrument or equipment, or as a stand-alone product) a notice to that effect will be contained with or on the disk supplied and in such circumstances Korg shall be deemed to be acting as the agent only of the supplier of such Third Party Software.
In the event that Third Party Software is supplied, you agree to be bound by and to observe any terms and conditions relating to the use of such Third Party Software.
Korg shall not be obliged to provide support services for any Third Party Software supplied (whether relating to operating methods, defects, or otherwise).
Korg provides no warranty in relation to any Third Party Software supplied and all warranties whether express or implied as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Third Party Software or any part of the same are (in so far as may be permitted by law) hereby excluded.
Korg furthermore disclaims all responsibilities for direct, derivative, collateral or consequential damages caused by the use of or the inability of using the Third Party Software (including but not limited to damage of data, lost commercial profit, interruption of work, lost commercial information), regardless of the degree of damages, and even if Korg was aware of the possibility of such damages in advance.
7. SUPPORT SERVICES
Support services such as technical support or upgrade support for this product are provided according to the support service policies of Korg’s distributors applicable in each country.
Korg reserves the right to amend any such policies from time to time in its absolute discretion.

8. GENERAL
The license created by this agreement is personal to you and you may not assign or otherwise transfer your rights or obligations under this agreement without the prior written consent of Korg.
If any part of this Agreement is found by a court of competent jurisdiction or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable then such part shall be severed from the remainder of this Agreement which will continue to be valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
This agreement is governed by and construed under the local law of the country where this product has been purchased.
You hereby agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the aforementioned territory, without regards to conflicts of law provisions.
Headings have been included for convenience only and shall not be used in construing any provision in this Agreement.
