Wine has a root directory.wine in your home directory. The windows-drive letters (e.g.: C: D:.) can be mapped with the winecfg program. Depending on what drive letter you installed MS office you find the files somewhere under the.wine directory. Choose Installer Folder. This option is useful if the content of a CD has been copied into a folder on your local hard drive. It may also be necessary if you are installing from a disk that contains multiple installers in subdirectories. The Choose Installer Folder option will treat the selected folder. 2. It's more likely to be a permissions or dependency problem. Can you copy those files to another directory, say your $USERDesktop folder. Then open up a terminal and change directories (CD) to the setup file directory. Then do 'chmod 777 setup.exe', change setup.exe to the setup files name. You must do this for all dependencies of the setup file.

Make sure you've allowed executing of the file as a program as well. I've honestly never heard of this happening, what version of Wine are you using? (Applications -> Wine -> Configure -> About). What software are you trying to install? You may need to install a few requirements, such as Wine Tricks. This will install some common windows dependencies.

    • Hello Jeffery,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The program is called BatScan it is a piece of software for analysing bat calls. I have loaded it ok directly onto Windows XP/ME.

When I look at the install CD in Xubuntu it has a padlock symbol by the side of it. I have done as suggested and copied to home directory and chmod 777. But the result is the same. After right clicking on the file and choosing the Wine program loader a screen briefly shows which I believe says Install shield wizard. That disappears then nothing else happens.

      Wine version is 1.13.15.

      Thanks

  3. Try going to the CD drive from Thunar or Nautilus file manager. Go to 'Computer' then your CD drive, does it execute the autorun or can you see the files? If you're able to see the files, find the setup executable and right click on it and chose 'properties'. From there navigate to the permissions tab and enable 'Allow executing file as program'.

    • I can see the file. I can right click on it and open using the wine windows program loader. After I do this a window is briefly display which I think says something like windows install shield wizard? This then disappears and nothing happens. Is it a problem with some sort of windows security check?

The Finder is the first thing that you see when your Mac finishes starting up. It opens automatically and stays open as you use other apps. It includes the Finder menu bar at the top of the screen and the desktop below that. It uses windows and icons to show you the contents of your Mac, iCloud Drive, and other storage devices. It's called the Finder because it helps you to find and organize your files.

Open windows and files

To open a window and see the files on your Mac, switch to the Finder by clicking the Finder icon (pictured above) in the Dock. Switching to the Finder also reveals any Finder windows that might be hidden behind the windows of other apps. You can drag to resize windows and use the buttons to close , minimize , or maximize windows. Learn more about managing windows.

When you see a document, app, or other file that you want to open, just double-click it.

Change how your files are displayed

You can view files as icons , in a list , in columns , or in a gallery . And for each view, the View menu provides options to change how items are sorted and arranged, such as by kind, date, or size. Learn more about customizing views.

When you view files in a gallery, you can browse your files visually using large previews, so it's easy to identify images, videos, and all kinds of documents. Gallery View in macOS Mojave even lets you play videos and scroll through multipage documents. Earlier versions of macOS have a similar but less powerful gallery view called Cover Flow .

  • More information, including detailed metadata, can be shown for each file. This is particularly useful when working with photos and media, because key EXIF data, like camera model and aperture value, are easy to locate. Choose View > Preview Options to control what information the Preview pane can show for the kind of file selected.
  • Quick Actions let you easily manage or edit the selected file.

  • Combine images and PDFs into a single PDF file
  • Trim audio and video files

To manage Quick Actions, click More , then choose Customize. macOS Mojave includes a standard set of Quick Actions, but Quick Actions installed by third-party apps also appear here. You can even create your own Quick Actions using Automator.
